Takoma Park, Maryland is located in Montgomery County Maryland, adjacent to Washington, D.C. on the northeast side of the District.  First planned as a commuter suburb, The City of Takoma Park was founded in 1883 by Benjamin Franklin Gilbert along the Metropolitan Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The City was incorporated in 1890 and is governed by the City Council, with a Mayor and six Council members employing the Council/Manager form of government

Two of the main hubs in Takoma Park are the Co-op (grocery store) and the Takoma Park Metro station. There is always bustling activity around both of these places.

Takoma Park Metro connected residents to the WMATA grid on the Red Line. Main roads include Piney Branch Road, Philadelphia Avenue and Carroll Avenue.
